Family: Its funny how much u love them and hate them at the same time. Here in Jamaica I love the reassurance I get from them and how proud they are of me. However my life must be extra special because there is always a running commentary of my life between the Aunts and parents. For example Shannon called from Millbrook to wish me Merry Christmas, and all of a sudden she became my girlfriend. My parents were asking her backgfround the Aunts wanted to see a picture. If any of my friends call the whole house needs an explanation: why are they calling and who called. It gets even better because the Aunts have their ears glued to the wall to hear all my conversations and they make sure to report it all to my parents. What is even more fun is that I no longer have a room here. My room has now become the storeroom/ my sisters office so I get the day bed in the living room.
There are 11 people living in my house. My parents, bro, sis, 2 aunts and myself live in the right side which has 6 bedrooms and my uncle, my aunt and their 2 sons live on the left side which has 4 bedrooms. With 7 people sharing 2 bathrooms (and all of them has taken 2 weeks off from work) its impossible to get a good 15 mins in the bathroom without someone pounding on the door. So needless to say I have no privacy.
The other fun joke is all of them keep complimenting me on how much weight i lost and they tell me to keep it off. BUT...at the Christmas day dinner I was repeatedly asked are u really going to only have 2 plates of food which was followed by my aunts placing several food items on my plate. When it came to dessert time. I was bad and had a slice from 3 different fruitcakes. Unfortunately 4 aunts brought fruitcakes so i was forced to eat a fourth slice. Then dad deposited cookies on my plate before i could finish there was my sister with plantain tarts. I tell u its impossible to to try to look trim in this family.
Long and short of it Family are like pills u only need a small dose to make u feel better but if u take a large dose you will find yourself in the hospital. |
